At this week’s E3 tradeshow, Microsoft unveiled the really startling Kinect. After its progressive sneak peaks of the past year (under the code name Project Natal), the Kinect is now poised to be a milestone not only in how people use their Xbox 360s, but how consumers think about computer interfaces in general.

There has been a LOT of press in the past few months about Apple’s seemingly inexplicable refusal to embrace Flash technology on its mobile devices. Every time I sit down to speculate on the subject, the story changes. Today, Steve Jobs himself chose to respond.
With holidays quickly approaching and a planned visit from my parents, I realized that I didn’t have a bed for our new guest room but really didn’t think about it much until I saw an ad in the Wall Street Journal for an inflatable bed from Frontgate. Kudos to Frontgate for effectively using video to help their website visitors buy from them.
Last week, I wrote about YouTube’s announcement on video captioning services. This nifty, augmented transcription feature certainly stands to enhance the accessibility of multimedia presentations to multiple audiences. And what I only suspected last week seems to be gaining supported belief now: that captioned videos stand to positively impact organic search.
Google just announced an interesting new service available for YouTube: automated captioning of uploaded videos. Simply upload a text file with a transcript of the video and Google’s speech recognition technology will figure out when those words are spoken and create captions based on this information. Pretty slick.
